Due to a legislative request, the Maine Department of Environmental Protection has been asked to develop training for landscape professionals on LakeSmart Landscaping practices.  LakeSmart is a very popular incentive-based program for shorefront property owners that rewards them for landscaping and managing their properties to protect Lake Water quality.  The program focuses on establishment or enhancement of vegetative buffers as well as erosion control and stormwater management.

MELNA will be holding a LakeSmart Landscape workshop on Thursday, November 13th at 8:30 AM at Keeley’s Banquet Center, 178 Warren Avenue, Portland.  The cost of the LakeSmart Landscape workshop will be $55.00 per person for MELNA members, $75 per person for non-members.  This will include the cost of all materials, continental breakfast, lunch and snacks for the day.  The deadline for registrations is November 7.  You can register online at www.melna.org under the “Events” tab; or by returning this registration form to the MELNA Office.

The program for the day is being developed and presented by the Department of Environmental Protection.  Those successfully completing the day will gain at least 1 Pesticides credit and they will also earn the designation of Certified LakeSmart Landscaper by the Maine Lakes Society.  The Maine Lakes Society refers shorefront property owners who desire to help protect Maine’s lakes to Certified LakeSmart Landscapers; so this will be of value to your business.

MELNA Members: $55,  Non-MELNA Members: $75
