MELNA COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT
Volunteers & Donations Needed!

Camp Kita | Acton, Maine
MELNA’s upcoming Community Service Project at Camp Kita has been rescheduled for Thursday, October 8.
Camp Kita provides meaningful support and programming for children and families impacted by suicide loss. MELNA members will be coming together to help improve the camp grounds, with a major focus on refurbishing the beach area and surrounding landscape.
We’re looking for volunteers, donated materials, and equipment to help make this project a success!
🌿 PLANT MATERIAL DONATIONS
We are seeking hardy, low-maintenance plants appropriate for Maine, including:
  • Ornamental grasses – Switchgrass, Little Bluestem, Blue Fescue, or similar
  • Coneflower
  • Black-Eyed Susan
  • Butterfly Weed
  • Yarrow
  • Catmint
  • Sedum
  • Amsonia
  • Asters
  • Goldenrod
  • Alliums
  • Hardy, low-maintenance evergreen shrubs
  • Other Maine native or well-adapted perennials
🪨 LANDSCAPE MATERIALS NEEDED
New England Specialty Stone has generously committed to donating a fire pit, which volunteers will help install as part of the project.
Additional donations needed include mulch, loam/compost, crushed stone or gravel, landscape fabric, and watering supplies.
🚜 EQUIPMENT NEEDED
We are also looking for members who may be able to donate equipment or equipment time, including a skid steer, mini excavator, dump truck/trailer, material delivery, and debris removal.
🙌 VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
Whether you can provide an experienced crew member or simply an extra set of hands, we’d love your help!
Volunteers are needed for planting, bed preparation, mulching, stone and fire pit installation, equipment operation, watering, general site work, and cleanup.
