Warehouse Shipping & Receiving Manager

 

Estabrook’s is a family owned and operated garden center located in Yarmouth Maine. Estabrook’s was originally
established by Myron Estabrook Sr. as a poultry farm in its present location at 337 East Main Street. In the mid 1940’s,
Myron’s son Melvin Estabrook started a well-known local produce farm, ultimately evolving into the full-service garden
center that it is today. With close to 30 growing greenhouses, Estabrook’s not only offers high quality products, but is a
local destination for design consultations, florist services and bulk goods for your garden projects.

 

At Estabrook’s you will be a part of a three-generation team that plays a continued role in the local Yarmouth Community.
We are open 7-days a week with in-season hours of 8:00am to 6:00pm during the Spring and Summer months and off-
season hours of 9:00am to 5:00pm during Fall and Winter. Hourly positions vary from Seasonal to Year-Round and can
be part-time or full-time covering weekdays and weekends. Our retail space is located inside and outside, and our offices
are on first and second floors of older buildings with only stairs. Earned Paid Leave is available based on state
requirements and additional benefits are available for Year-Round staff working 30 or more hours per week.

 

Estabrook’s is currently hiring for a Year-Round Fulltime Warehouse Shipping & Receiving Manager. At Estabrook’s
the Warehouse Shipping & Receiving Manager oversees shipping, receiving and bulk goods. As the first person to see a
majority of incoming product, and account for incoming purchases attention to detail is key. To be successful in this
role you will need to run an organized and efficient loading and receiving area while verifying quantities, plant health
and other issues upon receipt. Concerning the bulk goods, it is important to keep product bays full and tidy, while
making sure onsite customer loading takes place safely. This position oversees the scheduling of drivers for delivery
services, to include support for our Farmhouse Floral program as well as directing the work of the loading and labor
crew to efficiently complete tasks. In addition, department lines and job duties are flexible.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Warehouse, Stocking & Receiving

• Oversee warehouse operations and organize with respect to seasonal needs
• Responsible for receiving all shipments, inventory, bulk and bagged good items
• Coordinate receiving schedules with vendors
• Oversee both bagged goods and bulk goods areas, product inventory and sales
• Retail system training and oversight for bulk sales
• Work with suppliers for assortment, favorable pricing, terms, quality, and delivery
• Place orders to ensure regular supply, and adequate supply for specials
• Receive, review, verify and submit invoices for billing
• Ensure uniform, up-to-date department signs as needed. Work with marketing regarding signage needs
• Manage special orders and offer prompt & courteous customer service, assisting with product questions
• Plan and maintain attractively, fully stocked, and rotated (and faced, where applicable) sections and bins
• Position/team are available for Floral Delivery & Maintenance/Facility projects as needed throughout the year
• Oversight of inter-store transfers to Kennebunk

Delivery & Loading

• Oversight of product delivery to customers
• Coordinate with all departments on customer needs and expectations and prioritize schedule of deliveries
• Follow up on delivery orders and appropriately schedule drivers and plan routes
• Ensure up to date training on equipment on all vehicles for both on and off-site use
• Maintain loading area as well as vehicle upkeep
• Maintain required paperwork, permits and vehicle registrations

Supervision & Leadership

• Set work priorities and direct staff, including break schedule, to ensure productivity
• Balance business needs with crew availability and submit weekly schedules in advance
• Ensure customer service standards and expectations are met by all staff
• Ensure safety practices and safe equipment use by staff through on-the-job training and skill development
• Communicate to HR department seasonal staffing needs
• Act as a point person for conflict resolution during shift
• Report policy violations and performance issues to Management

 

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:

• 3-5 years of experience in wholesale/product control
• 2-3 years experience as a project leader or lead worker experience may substitute for supervisory experience
• Understanding of fleet management, maintenance, and repair of equipment
• Prior experience with safety training, forklifts, loaders, light weight truck cranes and large vehicles a plus
• Relevant experience may be substituted for education on a year per year basis
• Ability to direct the work of other employees while working well within a team atmosphere
• Ability to effectively communicate with employees, managers, and customers
• Ability to lift at least 50lbs and able to stand for long periods of time – active role
• Constantly striving the be above the line with close attention to detail, and ability to manage time
• Exhibit creative and business-minded decisions to drive company strategy
• Accountable to the highest level of integrity regarding company time, products, and employee relations
• Ability to work 40 hours/week including weekends with flexibility for peak season needs

Indoor Houseplant Specialist

We are currently looking to hire an experienced Indoor Houseplant Specialist to join our Estabrook’s family. This
position requires knowledge of a wide variety of indoor foliage and blooming plants. You will need to be able to identify
insects and disease problems on indoor plants and offer solutions to customers. In this role you will also be responsible
for the care and maintenance of our indoor plants and products, as well as the restocking of the indoor plant retail
area. Additionally, you will assist customers with planting/replanting of purchases and provide custom planting services
for customer owned plants. Establishing long lasting customer relationships will be key.

 

Position Requirements:

• Knowledge of indoor plants and foliage
• Strong customer service and plant sales skills
• A willingness to learn about the products and services we offer
• Complete annual custom plantings and pre-filled planters
• Social media outreach: comfort in front of camera to provide short “How To” videos
• The ability to stand for 8 hours, lift 50 lbs. and work outdoors
• Strong ability to multitask
• Register and Cash handling experience
• Able to work independently and as part of a team
• Flexibility to work both weekdays and weekends
